Care Guide
Advice for Wardrobe/Prop Master
- Avoid dark coloured fabrics contacting the “skin” of your prop baby as it may discolour.
- Do not store dressed for more than 48 hours. Clothing may create permanent indents on the soft silicone.
- Using feeding bottles during a scene should be done using the lubricant supplied to avoid tearing the mouth. Please do not use latex teat baby bottles as this will cause problems if the prop ever needs repairing.
- Temporarily use small plastic bags or food wrap over hands and feet to help sliding into sleeves or trousers.
- Always handle as you would a real baby
- hold like a real child – support the head
- avoid sharp or abrasive items
- do not force the mouth open – this is at risk of tearing at the corners
- A hair mister is provided to style the hair. Fill with water and gently mist to aid styling with the mini comb provided. Allow to dry naturally which typically takes an hour. The comb can be used on dry hair for checks.
- Additional theatrical liquids such as “blood” or “vernix” should be non staining and of a type that does not bead on silicone.
- Clean using warm water and unscented plain dish soap (Fairy green or similar). Apply with hands only – Do not use a cloth or sponge to scrub as this may damage the surface. Rinse under running water and pat dry with a soft white cotton cloth or allow to air dry.
- Be aware that as the prop is solid silicone, the hair is not sealed in with any adhesive. So avoid any unnecessary stress on the hair which may pull it out.
- Eyelashes may need restyling if wet. A gentle warm (not hot) use of a hair dryer blowing the lashes upwards is the simplest method. Ensue the head hair is covered whilst you do this to avoid causing that to stick up.
- If any damage occurs to your prop baby, you can contact me for advice ellamckcreations@gmail.com. Typically your prosthetics technician will have the supplies to make a repair and I will walk them through how to do that with best results. If the prop is a hired one then you should NOT attempt a repair.
